What are some reasons I might need a tooth extraction?

Tooth extraction is a relatively standard dental procedure, and your Katoomba dentist recommends it for various reasons.

If a tooth is fractured and damaged below the gumline, the dentist may recommend extraction if we cannot save it with a dental crown. However, in this case, we can talk to you about replacing the tooth to restore your smile and prevent tooth migration.

For patients seeking dentures, extraction is sometimes part of it, especially if some teeth remain and are not healthy enough to support a partial denture.

We may also recommend extractions before orthodontics if the jaw is not large enough to accommodate a full mouth of aligned teeth.

Additionally, our dentists provide wisdom teeth extractions in Katoomba. Wisdom teeth should erupt several years after your final adult teeth. But sometimes, one or more of these teeth don’t have room to come in correctly. They push on adjacent teeth and only partially come through the gum. This can be painful and even leave you vulnerable to oral infection.

Fortunately, you don’t need these teeth, and your dentist can plan for their extraction if necessary.
