How do I know when it’s a dental emergency?

The most common emergencies we see are oral infections of the tooth. These infections are often in the tooth root and require root canal therapy to eliminate pain and swelling and restore the tooth to health.

Other common dental emergencies in Katoomba include:

  • Broken/lost tooth, restoration, or prosthetic
  • Object lodged in the oral tissue or between teeth
  • Deep decay that causes oral pain and swelling

Sometimes, you may be unsure whether your situation is a dental emergency. However, if you have pain or an oral health change that does not improve, it is best to contact your Katoomba dentist. A team member can talk to you about your symptoms and provide the correct advice going forward.

Of course, you may be able to lower your risks for dental emergencies by visiting your dentist regularly for checkups and teeth cleans and by implementing an excellent oral care routine daily.
