Healthy habits are the best way to lower your risks for tooth root infections and other complications, such as recurring tooth decay, bad breath, and gum disease.
Your Katoomba dentist provides gentle root canal treatment, but having no infection is best of all!
What Are Root Canal Infections?
Root infections mean bacteria have penetrated your tooth enamel, reached the tooth's root chamber, and caused an infection.
Most root canal infections are painful. You may notice some or all of the following symptoms:
- Severe and increasing tooth pain
- A bump or blister on the gum.
- Gum or facial swelling
- Tooth discolouration
If your tooth nerve is damaged, pain may be minimal or absent. If you notice oral health changes without pain, we urge you to consult with a dental team member. Root canal infections are dental emergencies.
How Can I Lower My Risk?
You can lower your risk of root canal infections by seeing your dentist regularly for checks and cleans. It’s also important to brush your teeth at least twice daily and floss no less than once, preferably before bed. Additionally, protect your teeth with a mouthguard if you play sports.
