Why do I need root canal therapy?

There are many untrue rumours surrounding root canal therapy. However, the good news is that a root canal treatment in Katoomba relieves tooth pain and restores oral health.

If you need a root canal, you have an infection deep in the canal of your tooth. Most of the time, the root infection is very painful. You may notice:

  • Tooth pain
  • Jaw swelling
  • Gum blister

If you’re fortunate, your dentist can diagnose the infection in the early stages during a routine check-up—treating it before it causes severe discomfort.

A root infection may result from untreated decay or tooth trauma.

The root canal therapy finds your Katoomba dentist numbing the treatment area, gently extracting the infected pulp, and sealing your tooth with a temporary filling. At a future appointment, we cap your tooth with a dental crown to restore function and prevent a future fracture.

You can lower your risks for oral infections by visiting your dentist regularly and brushing and flossing daily. And if you’ve experienced trauma to your tooth, we recommend talking to one of our dental team members for advice.
