Why do I have a toothache?

Toothaches happen for a variety of reasons. In some cases, they may not even be dental-related. For example, a toothache in the upper jaw can be associated with a sinus infection or sinus pressure.

However, most of the toothaches we see result from:

  • Tooth Root Infections
  • Deep Tooth Decay
  • Tooth Injury
  • Gum Recession

Toothaches: The Common Culprits

  • Tooth Root Infections: This means you have an infection in the pulp chamber of your tooth. You may also notice swelling and tooth discolouration.
  • Deep Tooth Decay: Advanced and deep cavities can cause extreme tooth sensitivity and pain.
  • Tooth Injury: A tooth injury can disrupt blood flow and leave your tooth at risk for an infection or loss.
  • Gum Recession. Gum recession can lead to root exposure, which means tooth pain.

At Katoomba Dental Centre, we consider pain a dental emergency and want to hear from you as soon as possible.

The goal of emergency dentistry is to ease your pain and restore your oral health.
